National Forum for English Studies 2025

The English Studies unit at SOL would like to welcome you all to Lund in April 9-11, 2025, for the 13th National Forum for English Studies ‘The future in and of English Studies.’ The conference is supported by the Swedish Society for the study of English (SWESSE). In connection to this year's theme, we invite papers that are focused on, for example, sustainability, AI, and global Englishes, or how English education in Sweden might change in the future to adapt to new times and circumstances. We also welcome teachers and researchers to present papers focused on teaching practices and ongoing research, whatever their focus may be. Seminars and workshops specifically for doctoral students will also be organised.

Possible topics of focus for contributions include (but not limited to):

  1. Impact of AI: In a global context of constant technological advancement, the use of AI has dominated many different aspects of our lives. The academic community has faced the challenge of the uncontrolled use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools and scholars have raised different voices towards this issue. Sharing experiences on this matter and discussing different approaches is a timely topic that this conference will try to address.
  1. Sustainability: Sustainability will be also among the topics of interest for the participants of the conference, and English Studies – as part of the humanities – can play an important role in the global discussion regarding inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities (2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Goal 4).
  1. The future of English education: Aspects of how English education in Sweden might change in the future to adapt to new times and circumstances will be voiced. Studies focused on teaching practices and ongoing research in the field (irrespective of focus) will be presented, as well as current concerns of teachers and researchers regarding the relevance of English Studies in today's context.

This conference will offer the opportunity for teachers and researchers in literature, linguistics and language learning and teaching to meet and discuss these topics.
