This thesis describes for the very first time the development of a miniaturized neural interface which is flexible in three dimensions (3D) to enable it to follow the brain movements with minimal dislocation. Both the design rationale and the material choice for the electrodes aim to develop interfaces that minimize the damage and/or the irritation of the tissue during and after the implantation.

There is a vast literature about adaptive (self-organizing, self-optimizing) control systems. The aim of this paper is to point out some of the main ideas. Since there exists good survey papers about several of the classes of adaptive controllers the main part of this paper will concentrate on recent developments. The paper will cover stochastic adaptive controllers. The problem of dual control is

Traditionally, hypervisors, operating systems, and runtime systems have been providing an abstraction layer over the bare-metal hardware. Traditional abstractions, however, do not consider for non-functional requirements such as system-level constraints or users' objectives. As these requirements are gaining increasing importance, researchers are looking into making user-specified and system-level

This paper gives a mathematical tutorial on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). We see that with the usual mathematical model, the SAR reconstruction problem reduces to a problem in integral geometry. A number of mathematical problems are posed; the paper concludes with a short description of the basic idea underlying the algorithms used in most present systems. The challenge to the mathematical commu
