Longitudes, Syzygies, and Instruments in Regiomontanus' Calender for 1475-1531
Instruments and tables in Regiomontanus’ calendar published in 1474 are analysed and explained. It is shown that Regiomontanus used the Alfonsine Tables corrected for the longitude time difference between Toledo and Nuremberg. It is also shown that for the syzygy and eclipse times he used apparent solar times. The syzygy tables of George Peurbach may have been used to correct from mean to true syz
Four Instruments in Martín Cortés' Breve Compendio de la Sphera and a Rule for Finding the Age of the Moon
This paper investigates and discusses four instruments found in a sixteenth century Spanish book of navigation. The night clock is a rather standard application of similar instruments known since the fourteenth century in Europe. Cortés’ explanation of the causes of the deviation of the magnetic and geographical north is quite original. His instrument to correct for that the Polaris deviates from
Motion event categorisation in a nativised variety of South African English
The present study seeks to expand the current focus on acquisition situations in linguistic relativity research by exploring the effects of nativisation (the process by which a L2 is acquired as a L1) on language-specific cognitive behaviour. Categorisation preferences of goal-oriented motion events were investigated in South African speakers who learnt English as a L1 from caregivers who spoke En

Programmables self-supporting structures through 4D printing on tensioned textiles
4D printing is a development in additive manufacturing that enables 3D printed objects to transform over time in response to environmental stimuli. This research investigates the architectural viability of large-scale fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing of thermoplastics onto stretched textiles, which retract and warp into 3D structures upon release. Employing an iterative research-by-desi
A new dawn for the Infringement Procedure - New possibilities to safeguard the rule of law under Article 258 TFEU
The 'rule of law crises' in Hungary and Poland have shown weaknesses in the European Union’s system of enforcing the values enshrined in Article 2 TEU after accession. Especially Article 7 TEU as well as the other enforcement procedures have proven to be incapable of forcing Member States back into compliance with the values enshrined in Article 2 TEU so far. However, this thesis contests
All offentlig makt ska utövas under lagarna, men är det så? En kvalitativ studie på normers påverkan av juridiska beslut
All judicial power is to be condemned by the law according to the Swedish constitution but does this apply to a frame law where there is a legal gap that the decision makers can fill with other norms than legal norms? According to the paradigm of sociology of law do other factors than just legal norms affect the judicial decision. This means that the judicial decisions might be affected by factors
