Positron emission tomography (PET) with (18)F-FDG is a valuable tool for staging, planning treatment, and evaluating the treatment response for many different types of tumours. The correct volume estimation is of utmost importance in these situations. To date, the most common types of phantoms used in volume quantification in PET utilize fillable, hollow spheres placed in a circular or elliptical

Spx is a global regulator that is widespread among the low G+C Gram-positive bacteria. Spx has been extensively studied in Bacillus subtilis, where it acts as an activator and a repressor of transcription in response to disulfide stress. Under non-stress conditions, Spx is rapidly degraded by the ClpXP protease. This degradation is enhanced by the YjbH adaptor protein. Upon disulfide stress, the a

Objective: To compare responsiveness based on item response theory (IRT) with that based on conventional scoring for two patient-reported outcomes measures in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS); the short disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (QuickDASH) measure, and the 6-item CTS symptoms scale (CTS-6). Study Design and Setting: Prospective cohort study of patients with CTS undergoing carpal tun

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) risk impaired shoulder function due to the inflammatory process. The knowledge of shoulder function in the early years of the disease is limited. The aim was to compare shoulder function and activity limitation related to the shoulder-arm-hand in women with RA in early disease course compared to age-matched healthy women.

Ammonium nutrition inhibits the growth of many plant species, including Arabidopsis thaliana. The toxicity of ammonium is associated with changes in the cellular redox state. The cellular oxidant/antioxidant balance is controlled by mitochondrial electron transport chain. In this study, we analysed the redox metabolism of frostbite1 (fro1) plants, which lack mitochondrial respiratory chain complex

Many persons with late effects of polio experience new or increased impairments, which can lead to walking limitations in daily life. No study has comprehensively analyzed how various self-reported impairments are associated with different aspects of self-reported walking limitations.

Repeated injury of the airway epithelium caused by hyperpnoea of poorly conditioned air has been proposed as a key factor in the pathogenesis of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in athletes. In animals, the short-acting beta(2)-agonist terbutaline has been shown to reduce dry airflow-induced bronchoconstriction and the associated shedding of airway epithelial cells. Our aim was to test t

Stars ascending the red giant branch develop an inversion in mean molecular weight (mu) owing to the burning of He-3 in the region immediately above their hydrogen-burning shells. This inversion may drive thermohaline mixing and thereby be responsible for the extra mixing which is observationally indicated on the red giant branch. In this paper, we investigate the physical influences that determin

In order to transform the fossil fuel dependent transport sector the promotion of biofuels has been crucial in the European Union’s transition towards climate neutrality. To ensure the sustainability of biofuels the European Commission published a Delegated Act on March 13th 2019, proposing the gradual phase-out of high emitting biofuels that may cause indirect land use change (ILUC) – one of them

The emerging green bond market is a novel research area with only a few studies being published in recent years. The increase in interest from issuers, investors, and academia shows the clear need for further investigation of the pricing dynamics affecting the green bond market. This study finds its theoretical foundation in the capital asset pricing model (CAPM), aiming to establish whether inves

This study examines the effects of progressive and regressive abortion reforms on women’s educational and labour market outcomes in Mexico. First trimester abortions became legal in Mexico City in 2007. Following the progressive legislative reform, 18 other Mexican states implemented more restrictive legislation on abortions. By using quarterly survey data and a difference-in-differences approach,

This study examines articulations between place, power, and difference between social groups in a farming community of afro-descendance and foreigners appropriating land in Ecuador. It is an iterative-inductive ethnography that combines the extended case study with autoethnography to move between layers of systemic structures, intersubjectivity and subjectivity. Socio-ecological space is understoo

In 2017, the Right of the Child UN convention will be legislated by Swedish authority; meaning that children’s rights will be statuary and a primary consideration at all civil levels. However, the universal definition of children’s rights opens for interesting questions regarding how a children’s standpoint is explained and expressed in different settings. The thesis hence seeks to place the inter

The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility of the National Adult Reading Test - Swedish Version (NART-SWE; Rolstad et al., 2008) in estimating premorbid intelligence for patients with mild cognitive symptoms. Patients with cognitive complaints were recruited from three Memory Clinics in Skåne as a part of the TIDIS project. Initially, a senior neuropsychologist made an estimation of
