Socioeconomic aspects of unmet healthcare needs and health outcomes - Economic conditions, social capital, unmet healthcare needs, healthcare providers and mortality

Socioeconomic status (SES) differences in health are well known. Both material and psychosocial hypotheses regarding these SES differences have been forwarded. Social capital (trust, social participation) may be seen as a contextual and social extension of this debate with access to healthcare as one of the four hypothesized mechanisms between high social capital and health. Pharmacokinetics of budesonide enema in patients with distal ulcerative colitis or proctitis

Pharmacokinetic data obtained after one dose of a 2-mg budesonide enema were compared with data obtained after the last dose of four weeks of daily treatment in 24 patients with active distal ulcerative colitis or proctitis. This open multicentre study involved 28 eligible patients. Sigmoidoscopy and biopsy scores improved significantly (P < 0.002) during the four-week treatment period. Determinants for use of direct-to-consumer telemedicine consultations in primary healthcare-a registry based total population study from Stockholm, Sweden

BACKGROUND: In recent years, telemedicine consultations have evolved as a new form of providing primary healthcare. Telemedicine options can provide benefits to patients in terms of access, reduced travel time and no risk of disease spreading. However, concerns have been raised that access is not equally distributed in the population, which could lead to increased inequality in health. The aim of

Patient safety and predictors for subsequent healthcare contact after self-care referral from Swedish ambulance services: a retrospective cohort study

BackgroundAmbulance clinicians increasingly refer patients to self-care, positioning ambulance service within a wider gatekeeping role and necessitating the assessment of whether self-care is a safe option or if further support is needed. Contrary to primary healthcare centre (PHC) referrals, self-care referrals often lack structured follow-ups, with the decision consequences remaining underexplor

Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and physiotherapy utilization in primary care - a registry-based study in Sweden

BACKGROUND: Previous research has identified a need for relevant evidence-based clinical guidelines in primary care physiotherapy. However, an essential first step is to identify the most prevalent diagnoses among patients seeking physiotherapy. Thus, this study aims to (I) identify the most prevalent musculoskeletal diagnoses and, (II) describe physiotherapy utilization and patient characteristic

Older people with intellectual disability and affective and anxiety disorders: Comorbidities, healthcare utilisation, pharmacotherapy and frailty factors requiring support and social services

This thesis is part of a Swedish national population project on

Analysing the emergence of risk : - an opportunity for patient safety

The notion of patient safety entails protecting patients from preventable harm. This thesis presents suggestions on how the healthcare system, notably psychiatric healthcare, can understand and analyse patient safety risk as an emergent property of everyday interactions and relations. This view has itsconceptual roots in complexity theory. The overall aim is to understand patient safety risk as an

Private health insurance in Sweden - A relief or burden on the waiting list for specialized care within the public health care system?

The substantial growth of private health insurance in 21st century Sweden has sparked debates about its potential effect on waiting times within the public health care system. Some argue that individuals with private health insurance are prioritized in the waiting list for health care, potentially leading to longer waiting times for those without private coverage. Conversely, others argue that pri

Antibiotic Prescribing in Primary Care - Studying the Management of Infections using Real-World Data
