Detta har nyligen förts fram i ljuset med anledning av den utredning som Europeiska Kommissionen bedriver om företaget Meta och deras digitala plattform Facebook MarkTying and its relation to competition law and the prohibition on abuse of a dominant position is well-studied. However, what puts the phenomenon in a new context is its occurrence within the market for digital platforms. This has recently been brought to light in connection with the investigation conducted by the European Commission concerning the company Meta and their digital platform Facebook M

Estimating surface flow over digital elevation models using a new improved form-based algorithm

This paper discusses new improvements of a form-based algorithm, which is used to estimate flow distribution over a continuous surface. In the new form- based algorithm (IFBFD), cells in a DEM are classified into five different classes. The classes are Peaks, Complicated, Sinks, Flats and Undisturbed cells. The method of how to estimate the flow distribution from each cell depends on its class. Es

Body Size, Skills, and Income: Evidence From 150,000 Teenage Siblings

We provide new evidence on the long-run labor market penalty of teenage overweight and obesity using unique and large-scale data on 150,000 male siblings from the Swedish military enlistment. Our empirical analysis provides four important results. First, we provide the first evidence of a large adult male labor market penalty for being overweight or obese as a teenager. Second, we replicate this r

Mapping snakebite epidemiology in Nicaragua--pitfalls and possible solutions.

Snakebites are a public health problem in Nicaragua: it is a tropical developing country, venomous snakes are present and there are reports of snakebites treated both in the formal and informal health care system. We aimed to produce an incidence map using data reported by the health care system that would be used to allocate resources. However, this map may suffer from case detection bias and dec

Ecological factors associated with Emergency Department use by older people in Italy

Background: Many studies investigated factors associated with overuse of Emergency Department (ED) by older people. However, there is little evidence of how a better access to long-term care services can affect ED visit rates. Therefore, we estimated the association between ED use and contextual (distance to closest ED), need (priority level at admission and care deprivation), predisposing (socio-

Reflections about handling interview data from third countries at European universities: Collaboration opportunities and/or risky business for participants and researchers?

Validation of Patient Identification Algorithms for Atopic Dermatitis Using Healthcare Databases

Introduction: The use of real-world data offers a possibility to perform large-scale epidemiological studies in actual clinical settings. Despite their many advantages, administrative databases were not designed to be used in research, and the validation of diagnoses and treatments in administrative databases is needed. The primary objective of this study was to validate an existing algorithm base
