Effects of Changes in Executive Compensation – In the Light of the Financial Crisis

Executive compensation is one of the most widely discussed topics since the latest economic turmoil. Shortly after the S&P 500 decreased by almost 50 percent in fall 2008, 70 percent of the 200 largest corporations in the United States reported changes in compensation packages for their executives. This study gives the reader an empirical insight into the stock market reaction following the an

“This is not a drill” - but is this a climate emergency? : On co-opted activist discourses, municipalism and institutionalized double realities in the city of Barcelona

The worsening climatic condition, together with a renewed wave of climate movements have spurred declarations of climate emergency by governmental institutions worldwide. In the city of Barcelona, unique for its social movement history and activist city council, such a declaration was issued on January 15th, 2020. The purpose of this thesis is to problematize how Swedish migration policy is being legitimized. The study examines discourses in debates about migration between the Moderate Party and the Swedish Social Democratic Party. There are two major areas of interest: firstly, their discussions about the change in migration policies in 2015 and 2016, and secondly, their articulations of the unaccompanied

The cultural aspect of knowledge transfer between Sweden and Uganda/Tanzania

This thesis is based on the problem of transferring knowledge across different cultures. It is a qualitative research, which takes place in Uganda and Tanzania, consisting of six interviews with participants from two batches in the Sida program, two observations and one workshop. The point of departure were two questions: 1) What cultural aspects affect the knowledge transfer within the Sida:s “Ch

Identity as a strategic resource: a study on alternative gender NGOs in Kyrgyzstan

Since national independence many NGOs active in the domain of gender have been established in Kyrgyzstan. Recently, this part of the NGO sector has seen the emergence of alternative organizations, voicing new issues and perspectives. In this thesis, I take a closer look at these new actors: how they differ from the older generation and also in relation to each other. I am especially interested in

Bolivias demokratiska utveckling. Från klassklyftor till konsolidering

In this thesis the relationship between socioeconomic equality and democratic consolidation is evaluated through a case study of Bolivia. The country is one of the poorest in the Latin American region and has suffered a large degree of socioeconomic inequality. The country ended the transition to democracy in 1985 and has since then met challenges in consolidating the democracy and create stable p

The blue straggler V106 in NGC6791 : A prototype progenitor of old single giants masquerading as young

We determine the properties of the binary star V106 in the old open cluster NGC6791. We identify the system to be a blue straggler cluster member by using a combination of groundbased and Kepler photometry and multi-epoch spectroscopy. The properties of the primary component are found to be Mp ~ 1.67M⊙, more massive than the cluster turn-off, with Rp ~ 1.91R⊙ and Teff = 7110 ± 100 K. The secondary

Svenska skalbaggar 3 – släktet Clambus

As a result of a careful examination of the available Swedish material of the genus Clambus Fischer von Waldheim,1821 (Coleoptera: Clambidae), our current understanding of the Swedish Clambus fauna is revised. A total of 1844 specimens were identified from museum specimens as well as private collections, resulting in eight species belonging to the Swedish fauna. In the past there was confusion abo

Clinical validity of second-generation tau PET tracers as biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease in the context of a structured 5-phase development framework

Purpose: In 2017, the Geneva Alzheimer’s disease (AD) strategic biomarker roadmap initiative proposed a framework of the systematic validation AD biomarkers to harmonize and accelerate their development and implementation in clinical practice. Here, we use this framework to examine the translatability of the second-generation tau PET tracers into the clinical context. Methods: All available litera

Diabetes Mellitus as a Risk Factor for Trigger Finger – a Longitudinal Cohort Study Over More Than 20 Years

Background and Aim: Trigger finger (TF) or stenosing tenosynovitis has been associated with diabetes mellitus (DM), although today’s knowledge is mostly based on cross-sectional and case-control studies. Thus, the aim of the present population-based cohort study over more than 20 years was to investigate DM as a risk factor for TF.Methods: Data from Malmö Diet and Cancer Study (MDCS), including 30

Poly(arylene alkylene)s with Tetrazole Pendants for Alkaline Ion-Solvating Polymer Electrolyte

Alkaline ion-solvating membranes derived from a tetrazole functionalized poly(arylene alkylene) are prepared, characterized and evaluated as electrode separators in alkaline water electrolysis. The base polymer, poly[[1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-diyl(1,1,1-trifluoropropan-2-yl)], is synthesized by superacid catalyzed polyhydroxyalkylation and subsequently functionalized with tetrazole pendants. After equi

Novel Approaches to ECG-Based Modeling and Characterization of Atrial Fibrillation

Det finns olika behandlingsstrategier för förmaksflimmThis thesis deals with signal processing algorithms for analysis of the electrocardiogram (ECG) during atrial fibrillation (AF). Such analysis can be used for diagnosing patients, and for monitoring and predicting their response to various treatment. The thesis comprises an introduction and five papers describing methods for ECG-based modeling and characterization of AF. Paper I--IV deal with meth

Förnuftskritik och teologiskt motiverad sakkritik : Ett bidrag till förståelsen av frihetstidens historieskrivning

Rational and theological criticism: A contribution to the understanding of Swedish eighteenth-century historiographyDuring the eighteenth century, several Swedish historians practiced a reasonbased form of criticism, above all when analysing the medieval period. The mass distribution and gravitational potential of the Milky Way

We present mass models of the Milky Way created to fit observational constraints and to be consistent with expectations from theoretical modelling. The method used to create these models is that demonstrated in our previous study, and we improve on those models by adding gas discs to the potential, considering the effects of allowing the inner slope of the halo density profile to vary, and includi
