Exhaustive, automatic testing of dataflow (esp. mapreduce) programs has emerged as an important challenge. Past work demonstrated effective ways to generate small example data sets that exercise operators in the Pig platform, used to generate Hadoop map-reduce programs. Although such prior techniques attempt to cover all cases of operator use, in practice they often fail. Our SEDGE system addresse

We determine the properties of the binary star V106 in the old open cluster NGC6791. We identify the system to be a blue straggler cluster member by using a combination of groundbased and Kepler photometry and multi-epoch spectroscopy. The properties of the primary component are found to be Mp ~ 1.67M⊙, more massive than the cluster turn-off, with Rp ~ 1.91R⊙ and Teff = 7110 ± 100 K. The secondary

This paper discusses teaching and learning activities (TLAs) that foster students’ commitment to homework and self-study. The discussion is illustrated with an exercise class, part of the International Master Programme in Wireless Communications at Lund University. The TLAs favored do not only look after the cognitive state and learning style preferences of the students, but they also take into ac

In recent years, air ventilation garments (AVG) have been reported effective to improve thermal comfort. In this study, an AVG incorporated with small fans was investigated on torso thermal comfort in moderate environment (Ta=25 °C, RH=50 %). Eight female subjects walked on the treadmill at a speed of 4 km·h−1 for 30 min and then rested for another 30 min. During the whole test protocol, the AVG w

Higher music education (HME) in Europe is multifaceted due to the great variety of legal frameworks, conservatory histories and practices. However, following the Bologna declaration in 1999, traditional conservatories are gradually transforming into research-based institutions, which means combining advanced performer training with artistic research. After a background on academisation in the high

During nutrient limitation, bacteria produce the alarmones (p)ppGpp as effectors of a stress signaling network termed the stringent response. RsgA, RbgA, Era, and HflX are four ribosome-associated GTPases (RA-GTPases) that bind to (p)ppGpp in Staphylococcus aureus. These enzymes are cofactors in ribosome assembly, where they cycle between the ON (GTP-bound) and OFF (GDP-bound) ribosome-associated

The transformation of the energy systems will call for new turbomachinery designs for harvesting low-grade heat. The word “low-grade” has many definitions and ranges from levels where steam is the preferred selection to very low grades where specially adopted ORC technology is used. In this work, turbomachinery for cascading the steam cycle with a very low-temperature ORC technology is studied. Th

PURPOSE: Early identification of the underlying cause of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important for treatment and prognosis. This study aims to investigate the association of hematoma volume and other clinical parameters on the distribution of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) probability according to the simplified Edinburgh CT criteria in a large, unselected intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) p
