Romanian grammar: its peculiarities from Indo-European perspectives

This article discusses peculiarities of the Romanian grammar in comparison with other Ind-European languages from historical perspective. It shows that Romanian uniquely preserves older characteristics of Indo-European languages, which makes it look 'an odd-one-out' among other Romance languages.

The Variation of University Physics Students’ Experience of Plus and Minus Signs in 1D Vector-kinematics Revisited

This article revisits and expands upon a previous phenomenographic study characterising the qualitatively different ways in which South African undergraduate physics students may experience the use of +/– signs in one-dimensional kinematics (1DK). We find the original categorisation as applicable for interpreting Swedish university-level students’ responses to 1DK questions. However, by way of a t

Swedish community pharmacy employees' knowledge and experience of substandard and falsified medical products : a cross-sectional descriptive survey

OBJECTIVES: Substandard and falsified medical products are, according to the World Health Organization, a global threat to public health. To evaluate if community pharmacy employees can guide the public to safer medication purchases, their knowledge and experience about SF medical products was examined.METHODS: A digital questionnaire was distributed to the five dominating pharmacy companies in Sw

The 'Allegiance' Test : Judicial Legislation and Interpretation of GCIV

The article critically addresses the 'allegiance' test developed by International Criminal Jurisdictions for the determination of protected personal status under the Fourth Geneva Convention. Through a deconstruction of its elements and the methodology employed in its creation, the author shows substantial and methodological flaws that showcase the test as highly questionable example of judicial l

Turbulence and Reynolds number effects on the flow and fluid forces on a single cylinder in cross flow

The flow around a smooth and rigid tube (circular cylinder) in cross flow has been investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out in a closed-circuit low-speed wind tunnel. Two test tubes (diameters 41 and 120 mm, respectively) fitted with end plates were used. The fluctuating pressures on the tube surface were sensed by microphones in pinhole arrangements while the modulus of the s

Five propositions on how to combine threat and opportunity management in practice to further develop the project

Risk management in project contexts is increasingly more infocus amongst researchers and practitioners, including the debate on ifand how opportunities can be integrated into the work with threats, or ifseparation is better. In this conceptual paper, integratingseveral strands of literature including risk management, projectmanagement, and organization theory in terms of sensemaking andparadox per

Engineering the Welfare State : Economic Thought as Context to Boye’s Kallocain and Huxley’s Brave New World

While the political aspects of the interwar dystopias have received much attention, less focus has been given to the specific correlation to the economic thinking and developments of the period, in particular the prominence of economic planning. This article suggests that such a connection is significant by examining a key Swedish novel from the period, Kallocain, in relation to the early economic

Hausdorff dimension of the second Grigorchuk group

We show that the Hausdorff dimension of the closure of the second Grigorchuk group is 43/128. Furthermore, we establish that the second Grigorchuk group is super strongly fractal and that its automorphism group equals its normalizer in the full automorphism group of the tree.

A pro-p group with infinite normal Hausdorff spectra

Using wreath products, we construct a finitely generated pro-p group G with infinite normal Hausdorff spectrum here hdim p G : (X|X ⊂ G) [0,1]denotes the Hausdorff dimension function associated to the p-power series p:Gpi, i ε N0 More precisely, we show that hspec p (G)=[0,1/3] ∪ (1) contains an infinite interval; this settles a question of Shalev. Furthermore, we prove that the normal Hausdorff s

Applications of p-deficiency and p-largeness

We use Schlage-Puchta's concept of p-deficiency and Lackenby's property of p-largeness to show that a group having a finite presentation with p-deficiency greater than 1 is large, which implies that Schlage-Puchta's infinite finitely generated p-groups are not finitely presented. We also show that for all primes p at least 7, any group having a presentation of p-deficiency greater than 1 is GolodS

Allegiance in International Humanitarian Law : the duty of fidelity and the laws of armed conflict

Allegiance is a legal concept that seeks to regulate the duty of fidelity of individuals towards states. A particularity of allegiance is the fact that it has been repeatedly used in treaty provisions, as well as interpretation of rules, in the field of International Humanitarian Law. The fields in which it has been introduced are quite broad, from rules relating to Prisoner of War status, to defi
