Measurement of the sensitive profile in a solid state silicon detector, irradiated by X-rays

A newly constructed solid state silicon dose profile detector is characterized concerning its sensitive profile. The use of the MEDIPIX2 sensor system displays an excellent method to align an image of an X-ray slit to a sample under test. The scanning from front to reverse side of the detector, show a decrease in sensitivity of 20%, which indicates a minority charge carrier lifetime of 0.18 ms and

Effect of N-2/CO2 dilution on laminar burning velocity of H-2-CO-O-2 oxy-fuel premixed flame

The dilution effect of N-2/CO2 on the laminar burning velocity of H-2-CO-O-2 mixtures was investigated. The dilution fraction of N-2 and CO2 in the unburned mixtures varied from 0% to 70% and 0%-50%, respectively, and H-2 content in H-2-CO fuels altered from 5% to 100%. All the studies were carried out at standard laboratory conditions (1 atm, 298 K) with equivalence ratio changing from 0.6 to 2.0

Immunopathological and Structural Alterations in Difficult to Control Asthma

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder affecting an estimated 300 million people worldwide. Most patients with asthma can be controlled with bronchodilators and low to moderate dose inhaled corticosteroids. However, an estimated 5-10% of the population presents a more troublesome disease, often referred to as severe asthma. The aim of present thesis was to study the relationship between histopat

Interval Identification of FMR Parameters for Spin Reorientation Transition in (Ga,Mn)As

In this work we report results of ferromagnetic resonance studies of a 6% 15 nm (Ga,Mn)As layer, deposited on (001)-oriented GaAs. The measurements were performed with in-plane oriented magnetic field, in the temperature range between 5 K and 120 K. We observe a temperature induced reorientation of the effective in-plane easy axis from [(1) over bar 10] to [110] direction close to the Curie temper

The M1 ground state fine structure transition in Ag-like Yb

In our previous work, the agreement between the theoretical and measured wavelength for the 4f-M1 transition of Ag-like W shed light on the importance of a careful treatment of all core-valence correlation effects to obtain a reliable value of this fine structure energy separation. To confirm these results and extend the analysis isoelectronically, we have undertaken an experimental and theoretica

Risk factors for hemorrhage during local intra-arterial thrombolysis for lower limb ischaemia

Assessment of clinical risk factors for haemorrhagic complications in patients undergoing intra-arterial thrombolysis for lower limb ischaemia. Retrospective reviews of consecutive patients subjected to intra-arterial thrombolysis due to lower limb ischemia at the Vascular Center, Malmö University Hospital, during a 5-year period from 2001 to 2005. Two hundred and twenty intra-arterial thrombolyti

Role of Toll-like receptors in airway inflammation

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are germline-encoded pathogen-recognition receptors that detect different microbial structures and activate the immune system. The human TLR family presently comprises ten members (TLR1-TLR10), each with distinct properties. Although the TLRs protect the host from infection, they have become increasingly implicated in the pathogenesis of various inflammatory diseases, in

Model Curriculum for a Bachelor of Science Program in Business Information Systems Design (BISD 2007): Organisational Impacts

In the light of technological changes, changes in business contexts, decreased number of IS students, changes in educational systems, etc., IS education commentators have urged the IS community to develop new and alternative IS curricula. In response to this, we present a model curriculum for a Bachelor of Science program in business information systems design (BISD 2007). The curriculum has a str

SMQT-based Tone Mapping Operators for High Dynamic Range Images

In this paper, tone mapping operations based on the nonlinear successive Mean Quantization Transform (SMQT) are proposed in order to convert high dynamic range images to low dynamic range images. A SMQTbased tone mapping applied on the luminance channel is derived as well as a SMQT-based method working directly on all RGB channels. Both methods are compared to other state-of-the-art methods and pr

Gene expression-based identification of prognostic markers in lung adenocarcinoma

Introduction Many studies have aimed at identifying additional prognostic tools to guide treatment choices and patient surveillance in lung cancer by assessing the expression of individual proteins through immunohistochemistry (IHC) or, more recently, through gene expression-based signatures. As a proof-of-concept, we used a multi-cohort, gene expression-based discovery and validation strategy to

Parallel axis split tasks for bounding volume construction with OpenMP®

Many algorithms in computer graphics make use of acceleration structures such as Bounding Volume Hierarchies (BVHs) to speed up performance critical tasks, such as collision detection or ray-tracing. However, while the typical algorithms for constructing BVHs are relatively simple, actually implementing them for performance critical systems is still challenging. Further, to construct them as quick

Prediction of falls and/or near falls by using tandem gait performance in people with mild Parkinson’s disease

Objective: To investigate whether tandem gait test (TG) can predict future falls and/or near falls in people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Background: People with PD have balance problems and an increased risk for falls. Although TG has been considered a predictor of falls, no PD-study has controlled results for demographic and disease-specific characteristics or included near falls when investig

Styrningens vindlingar: substitutionsbehandlingens premisser

For over 40 years, there's been a debate in Sweden of whether it's good or bad with maintenance therapy for heroin addicts. This method is far more acknowledged in other parts of Europe and in USA. The aim of this paper was to explore how public actors manifest their thoughts concerning the subject of the substitution program in Sweden. This approach includes the complex of problems that c

Socialarbetaren i organisationen: Anpassning eller inflytande?

The aim of this paper was to examine how social workers' comprehension of the need of financial aid exists in, and is influated by, the organisation they work in. To investigate this, we asked ourself questions concerning how the social worker view the way that the finicial aid-system and work surrounding it is formed, whether the social worker's understanding of the need of financial aid

Man and Matter: A Philosophical Inquiry into the Justification of Ownership in Land from the Basis of Self-Ownership

This study seeks to investigate the nature of ownership of land and how the right to its control and use can be inferred from self-ownership as a premise. Hence, the question asked is how ownership (of land) can be justified considering the nature of man from a natural rights point of view. The starting point for the argument is self-ownership as being, where man is identified as an indivisible e

-Omanligt kan man säga... : Socionomstuderande mäns perspektiv på yrke, karriär, status och att tillhöra en könsminoritet

The purpose of this study was to enlighten the views of male social work students on; the social work profession, social work status and their career options. Also, the study aimed at getting these students angles of approach on the fact that they, being men, are a minority group within the profession of social work. Some of the main questions were: Why does not social work as a profession seem to

Blatte - en etnicitet? Om ungdomars med utländsk bakgrund syn på sin etnicitet

Immigrants and children of immigrants are statistically lumped together into a category of "person with foreign background". Blatte is a degrading and violating word when directed at immigrants by Swedes. The aim of my essay was to test to what extent the Swedish term "blatte" could be qualified as an ethnicity in the sense that young people with foreign background born between

Värdering av föroreningsrisk - Ett förslag till angreppssätt för värdering av föroreningsrisk till följd av emission från en vägkonstruktion

When constructing a road the risk of emission of substances from the used materials to the surrounding environment has to be evaluated. The aim of this study is to present a proposal for how to evaluate the risk of contamination as a result of emission from the materials in a road construction. The study is based on literature studies, an inventory and a questionnaire that examines how experts in
