Teachers’ perception of organizational communication was assessed with a tailored questionnaire sampling 401 primary and lower secondary school teachers from two municipalities in Sweden (response rate 61 %). Overall, the teachers were satisfied with the workplace communication climate, the communication structure, and collegial communication, while time for communication, was reported deficient. Abstract Background This article addresses how music teaching are constructed by teachers in the Swedish Music and Culture schools. I will present the preliminary results of group conversations with teachers from six schools. All together 27 teachers in music (instrumental teaching), drama, media (photo and film), dance and art were participating. Aims The findings will be discussed within a dis

Bibliotekets tidiga historia, hur det kommer tThis study examines how the Latin manuscript collection of Queen Christina of Sweden was formed, what function it served for the queen and for others, and how various attempts to impose order on it reflect different epistemological traditions. A recurring theme of the study is the creation of order and the title, The Mild Boredom of Order, a quotation taken from an essay on book collecting by Walt

Thrombin generation is a key process that determines the extent of a hemostatic plug or a thrombotic process. The ensuing thrombin burst is crucial for the formation of a stable fibrin clot. During its active life, thrombin exerts a multitude of highly regulated actions on the blood and the vessel wall, among which is the clotting of fibrinogen. The inappropriate generation of thrombin may lead to

What are the effects of growth on equality in a long-term perspective? What are the effects of different patterns of equality on subsequent growth? And why are these questions relevant for the understanding of economic development? These are the overriding questions posed in the dissertation. They are addressed in the context of long-term change from economic backwardness to modern economic growth

In this paper we study the convex envelopes of a new class of functions. Using this approach, we are able to unify two important classes of regularizers from unbiased non-convex formulations and weighted nuclear norm penalties. This opens up for possibilities of combining the best of both worlds, and to leverage each method’s contribution to cases where simply enforcing one of the regularizers are

It is fair to assume that the process of standardization may have a significant impact on the development and adoption of SB. Within SB different standardization efforts have been made, but none has assumed a dominance or authority in the area. Standardization efforts within SB may differ within various technical areas, and also the basic processes of standard creation can be divided into various

A great influx of available computing resources has given rise to a large number of smart devices in everyday life. The functionality of smart devices vary from sensing to computation and are increasingly used for time-critical real-time applications. This Internet-of-Things (IoT) network of a variety of devices needs a robust communication network providing guarantees on system performance. We con

Systems mixing Boolean logic and arithmetic have been a long-standing challenge for verification tools such as SAT-based bit-vector solvers. Though SAT solvers can be highly efficient for Boolean reasoning, they scale poorly once multiplication is involved. Algebraic methods using Gröbner basis reduction have recently been used to efficiently verify multiplier circuits in isolation, but generally

The design of two antenna ports for a compact Y-shaped patch on top of a square ground plane is considered in this work. Specifically, characteristic mode analysis reveals candidate regions to locate two direct probe feeding ports to jointly excite two significant modes of the Y-shaped patch with low mutual coupling and correlation. The feed design procedure, based on both the amplitude and phase

Purpose. To explore adaptation patterns among disability pensioners with musculoskeletal disorders returning to work by means of the Swedish law on ‘resting disability pension’.Method. Qualitative analyses of interviews with 17 individuals going back to work.Results. Three adaptation patterns were identified: The Go-getter, the Realist and the Indifferent. These differed regarding influence factor

The existence of slavery in Viking-Age and high medieval Scandinavia is accepted as a fact. Law codes, literary sources and some few burials vouch for that. It is, however, more complicated to ascertain regional differences in the use of slaves, their ethnic identities and geographical distribution, as well as changes in the intensity of their exploitation over time. A new source, household potter

Protein-protein interactions can be challenging to study yet provide insights into how biological systems function. Targeted cross-linking mass spectrometry (TX-MS), a method combining quaternary protein structure modeling and chemical cross-linking mass spectrometry, creates high-accuracy structure models using data obtained from complex, unfractionated samples. This removes one of the major obst

The increased use of cloud and other large scale datacenter IT services and the associated power usage has put the spotlight on more energy-efficient datacenter management. In this paper, a simple model was developed to represent the heat rejection system and energy usage in a small DC setup. The model was then controlled by a reinforcement learning agent that handles both the load balancing of th

We present a strategy for failure resilient cloud control using model predictive control (MPC) extended with explicit recovery. Based on an arbitrary and unmodified device controller, the remotely operated MPC can safely manipulate the network controlled plant through temporary adjustment of an error signal generator. We show ways to implement the reliable cloud controller, relate it to two-degree

Software startups use prototyping to develop and test business ideas and to validate market viability. While prototyping is emphasized in agile methods, there is little research on how startups can best utilise scarce resources to effectively use prototypes in their dynamic business context. We performed a case study of four startups and investigated how startups currently use prototyping to elici

Current research on multi-antenna architectures is trending towards increasing the amount of antennas in the base stations (BSs) so as to increase the spectral efficiency. As a result, the interconnection bandwidth and computational complexity required to process the data using centralized architectures is becoming prohibitively high. Decentralized architectures can reduce these requirements by pr

Internal positivity offers a computationally cheap certificate for external (inputoutput) positivity of a linear time-invariant system. However, the drawback with this certificate lies in its realization dependency. First, computing such a realization requires finding a polyhedral cone with a potentially high number of extremal generators that lifts the dimension of the state-space representation,

This paper proposes a convex approach to the Frisch-Kalman problem that identifies the linear relations among variables from noisy observations. The problem was proposed by Ragnar Frisch in 1930s, and was promoted and further developed by Rudolf Kalman later in 1980s. It is essentially a rank minimization problem with convex constraints. Regarding this problem, analytical results and heuristic met
