A Guide to the Systematic Literature Review Methodology in Supply Chain Management: Recommendations for Authors, Reviewers and Editors

Literature reviews lay the foundation for almost every academic research project, and sometimes are a scholarly contribution in its own right. To increase rigor and credibility the findings have to be valid and reliable just as in any other type of research. This paper summarizes recent methodological developments in the application systematic literature reviews in supply chain management. It anal

Proximity and the trust formation process

Trust is a key mechanism for explaining the ease and frequency of knowledge spillovers within regions. While the importance of trust is virtually uncontested, there have been few attempts to rigorously disentangle the way in which trust formation is related to space and proximity. The aim of this paper is to advance the understanding of trust formation in terms of its main antecedents within the c

The Martial Origins of Democracy : A Global Study of Military Conscription and Suffrage Extensions Since the Napoleonic Wars

This article examines the relationship between conscription (the compulsory enlistment of civilians for military service) and democracy. Using the best available cross-country comparable data on the history of conscription and democracy, we demonstrate that there is an empirical relationship between conscription and democratization, but the relationship is more complicated than commonly believed.

The shaping of a settler fertility transition : Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century South African demographic history reconsidered

Using South African Families (SAF), a new database of settler genealogies, we provide the first comprehensive analysis of women’s cohort fertility in settler South Africa between 1700 and 1900. We find parity rates of approximately seven children per woman until a decline begins starting with women born in the 1850s. We date the start of South Africa’s fertility transition to cohorts born in the 1

Entropy solutions and flux identification of a scalar conservation law modelling centrifugal sedimentation

Centrifugal sedimentation of an ideal suspension in a rotating tube or basket can be modelled by an initial-boundary-value problem for a scalar conservation law with a nonconvex flux function. The sought unknown is the volume fraction of solids as function of radial distance and time for constant initial data. The method of characteristics is used to construct entropy solutions. The qualitatively

The Reputation of the "World's Most Prestigious Award": The Nobel Prize

At its heart, this is a case about the reputation of an international symbol of achievement and about managing an iconic brand. The case provides insights into the nature of a prestigious “heritage brand” and its challenges and opportunities to remain relevant and differentiated in the 21st century. Nordic Noir Adaptations as Reflections of Denationalization : The Effects of Public Film Support on a National Cinema (Paper presentation)

The objective of this paper is to briefly examine and contrast the two audiovisual productions of Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s first novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from the perspective that the two films were prepared, shot and finalized within vastly dissimilar production economies. The rationale behind the examination is that it seemingly reveals certain paradoxes that appear to challen

A comparison of Lotens foot model and data from subjects: the use of boot insulation measured with thermal foot model in calculations

A model for foot skin temperature prediction was evaluated on the basis of an experiment on subjects at -10.7 °C (light seated manual work) with winter boots. Insulation of the footwear was measured on a thermal foot model. The predicted temperature stayed higher for the whole exposure period and the difference between the predicted and the measured foot skin temperatures grew proportionally with

The arena of the professional body : Sport, autonomy and ambition in professional service firms

This paper explores the interplay of sport, the professional body and the self in professional service firms. We draw on qualitative data collected at two large international management consulting firms to show how individuals use sport to construct and enact themselves as autonomous and ambitious professionals, as well as to escape from frustrations arising in their everyday work life. We develop
