On equal terms? Marketing private label products next to leading national brand products – exploring the phenomena of shielding

Private labels (PL) have gone from being a marginal and rather odd phenomenon in the gro-cery sector 20 years ago, to having a prominent role in the grocery retailing landscape, ac-counting for approximately 25-30% of what is sold in Swedish food stores today. Given the enormous turnover of the grocery trade, amounting to 326 billion SEK in 2023 according to Statistics Sweden (SCB), this is a rema

Switching from Cash to Cashless Payments during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond

Using a survey of 5,504 respondents from 22 European countries, we examine preferences regarding cash and cashless payments at the point of sale (POS) during the COVID-19 crisis. Consumers favor cashless transactions when they believe that handling cash presents a higher risk of infection. Moreover, the habits they develop during periods of restrictions and lockdowns appear to further diminish the

NOVA : Funderingar kring ett shoppingcenter med utgångspunkt i fenomenologin

This thesis deals with a Swedish shopping centre, NOVA, from a phenomenological point of view. Starting in my own experience of the architecture I discuss issues such as gender, consumerism and the image of the ideal society, the Heterotopia, as they appear to me in my studies of the building. Divided into three different themes I then discuss the aspects I?ve found through my meeting with the ar

Colour correlations and multiplicities in top events

In events of the type e+e- → tt → bW+bW-, particle production could depend in a non-trivial way on the kinematics of the process. Energetic perturbative gluon radiation can be generated (when kinematically allowed) by the original tt system and by the t → bW+ and t → bW- decays, with negligible interference between the production and decay between the t and t decays. Soft perturbative gluon emissi

Foreign body reaction after modified silicone rubber arthroplasty of the first carpometacarpal joint

Twenty patients who had been treated with a silicone rubber trapezial implant for degenerative changes in the first carpometacarpal joint were evaluated radiologically and clinically. After a mean follow up of 4.5 years, 11 of the 20 required reoperation and removal of the prosthesis for persisting pain and weakness. In all hands in which the prosthesis remained radiographs showed bone resorption

Home-based enterprises in low-income settlements; evidence from Pereira, Colombia

It is now widely recognised that low-income households in Third World cities often use their homes not only as a means of shelter, but also as a source of income. This paper focuses on the types of enterprises found in five low-income neighbourhoods in the intermediate sized city of Pereira, Colombia. It is argued that it is necessary not only to recognise the importance of home-based enterprises

An alternative for whom? The evolution and socio-economy of Danish cohousing

Cohousing has caught the attention of activists, academics and decision-makers, and Danish experiences with cohousing as bofællesskaber are routinely highlighted as pioneering and successful. This article presents a mainly quantitative analysis of the development of Danish intergenerational cohousing and investigates socio-economic characteristics of residents in these communities. First, the arti

Organic solvent changes the chymotrypsin specificity with respect to nucleophiles

In α-chymotrypsin-catalyzed acyl-transfer reactions in water the specificity of the enzyme (the nucleophile reactivity of amino acid amides) is correlated with the substrate hydrophobicity and increases as the hydrophobicity of the side chain of the amino acid amides is increased. In a low water system (4% H2O) bulky amino acid amides are less efficient nucleophiles. The specificity of α-chymotryp

Intentional cooperation and acting as part of a single body

According to some accounts, an individual participates in joint intentional cooperative action by virtue of conceiving of him- or herself and other participants as if they were parts of a single agent or body that performs the action. I argue that this notional singularization move fails if they act as if they were parts of a single agent. It can succeed, however, if the participants act as if to
