Evolution and Differentiation of Large Icy Moons

Purpose: In preparation of several future missions with the objective to research the large icy moons of the Solar System, it is necessary to have a cohesive understanding of the conditions that might lead to the formation of liquid oceans in these moons. The purpose of this work is to create a numerical model for simulating the temperature evolution of the cores of large icy moons. Method: AssumiIn the early 17th century when Galileo Galilei first decided to point a telescope at Jupiter, he noticed four faint objects placed around it on the same line. As he spent more and more nights viewing them he realised that instead of moving in the same direction as Jupiter these four objects in fact orbited the planet itself. This proved that it is possible for another body to be the centre of grav

ETHNIC BIASES AND RACIALIZATION IN SWEDISH JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS - A qualitative study regarding lay judges’ narratives on Ethnic Discrimination and Racialization in judicial proceedings

Approaches to multimodal interfaces in modern mobile phones

Multimodal user interfaces or interfaces that involve the user with several senses could greatly improve usability and accessibility. A mobile phone contains several hardware technologies such as accelerometers, touch screens and vibrators that can be used to support a multimodal user interface, but these capabilities are seldom used. In this thesis multimodal interaction and how two-dimensional

The MS4A gene cluster is a key modulator of soluble TREM2 and Alzheimer's disease risk

Soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has been associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). TREM2 plays a critical role in microglial activation, survival, and phagocytosis; however, the pathophysiological role of sTREM2 in AD is not well understood. Understanding the role of sTREM2 in AD may reveal new pathological mechanisms and lead to the iSoluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has been associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The cultural practice of minor cinema archiving : The case of immigrant filmmakers in Sweden

The aim of this article is to present the archival practice behind two extensive research projects that we have worked on during the last decade: the Stockholm Film Workshop and minor immigrant filmmaking in Sweden. From Panic Rooms to Boardrooms - The effects of Business Continuity Management on company operations

This thesis explores the effects of Business Continuity Management (BCM) on a company’s daily operations. By investigating if such effects exist, this thesis contributes to the understanding of the implications of BCM. In turn, this understanding may help facilitate the implementation of BCM. Based on a qualitative method, it undertakes 7 interviews with Swedish companies within manufacturing, uti

The (Insignificant) Effects of Privatisation on Healthcare Staffing Levels and Other Healthcare Metrics

This paper sets out to investigate what effects healthcare privatisation has on healthcare staffing levels and other healthcare metrics in regional Swedish healthcare. Using econometric techniques and relying on public data of public healthcare spending on private actors as a proportion of total regional healthcare spending, this paper finds that privatisation in general has no significant effects

Kampen om Marknadsekonomisk Status

Since the opening of the Chinese borders in 1978, China has transformed in an unprecedented fashion. Constant economic reforms have converted the economy from a planned to a “socialist” market economy. Membership in the WTO has intensified China’s foreign trade and also integrated China in the world economy. Nonetheless, denial of Market Economy Status (MES) from its largest trading partner, the E

Oxytocin Me! Stress Relieving Cushion

The Oxytocin Me! project has proven to be a response to the nowadays increasing focus on high technology. The topic I have chosen is both a health and social matter: stress. In this regard, I have developed a stress relieving product that should challenge people to use their body’s own natural resources. The result is an ergonomic hug cushion that should stimulate the body to produce oxytocin hor

Användandet av ursprunglighet och den amerikanska indianen i identitetsskapande: En komparativ studie av Mormonerna och The Rainbow Family of Living Light

This thesis aims to show how indigeneity is used in the constitution of identity, and how the creation of identity and its underlying ideologies in turn are connected to global world systemic processes. Focus is on the Indian’s role in the constitution of identity of two disparate groups: the case studies which are presented here regard Mormons and The Rainbow Family of Living Light, the latter a

Iceland Should Replace Its Central Bank with a Currency Board.

In this contribution, we discuss the menu of policy regimes available for Iceland. Each regime is evaluated against the characteristics of the Icelandic economy. We start with a short description of the Icelandic economy. We then examine the costs and benefts of alternative monetary regimes. We conclude that no regime Iceland has tried since attaining full sovereignty in 1918 has provided economic

Energy Efficiency in Residential Buildings in Mozambique - Measurements and Simulations

Popular Abstract in English Energy savings and climate change mitigation have been discussed in the world since the oil crisis in the 1970s and the building sector has been seen as one of the largest contributors to global warming effects in the world. Energy efficiency in buildings is a critical issue to be addressed in order to reduce electricity energy used in buildings and is one of the main tMozambique, situated in south-east Africa, has sub-tropical and tropical climate and plenty of natural resources for energy production. The country is however poor, and only about 25% of the population has access to electricity from the grid. A very large part of the energy used in the country is used in the residential sector, and there is a general lack of knowledge, regulations and tools concer

Learning by ear, and its place in classical music

This project, presented as a lecture recital is about my experimentation and discoveries of the benefits of learning classical music by ear and performing by memory. The focus of this topic is to learn a variety of audition orchestra excerpts and solo pieces common in the bassoon repertoire by ear, and reflect on whether my music performance anxiety is reduced by performing from memory and from th

An inclusive and participatory approach to counter-radicalization? : Examining the role of Muslim associations in the Swedish policy process

Policies on preventing radicalization and recruitment to violent Islamist organizations have been widely criticized for reinforcing negative stereotypes of Muslims as a group. Sweden has stood out by international comparison by announcing an approach built on inclusion and participation, especially with regard to Muslim civil society. But what does it mean to make a policy process inclusive and pa

Extraction and chromatography of bioactive compounds in complex samples using supercritical CO2 technology

Medical doctors and nutritional specialists recommend to eat healthy foods including fruits and vegetables. Cosmetic experts also recommend to use cosmetic products obtained from natural products. The reason behind this is that natural products from plants contain chemical compounds which can promote health and protect our bodies from several diseases. These chemical compounds are called bioactiveBioactive compounds found in plants have been of interest to man since ancient times. These compounds have the ability to modulate the metabolic processes in our bodies, which suggests that they may promote better health. Bioactive compounds vary in their chemical structure, polarity, stability and biological activity. This diversity makes the study of bioactive compounds challenging from the pers
