Mid- to Late Holocene climate transition and moisture dynamics inferred from South Swedish tree-ring data

A 1561-year tree-ring width (TRW) chronology covering the period 2668–1108 BC (4617–3057 BP) has been developed from 159 moisture-sensitive peatland pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) sampled at Åbuamossen, southern Sweden. Tree population dynamics and annual growth responses of the trees were shown to reflect and give absolute age to regional hydro-climatological changes. Fingerprint Matching - Hard Cases

Today fingerprint matching software is widely used in applications such as mobile phones. Software for enrollment and verification of fingerprints is usually designed to work for "good" fingerprints, meaning that the fingerprint matching algorithms use minutiae locations. When such information is scarce due to scars, blisters or other damages, the algorithms do not work very well. In thi

Towards a Sustainable Energy Future: A Case Study of Luxembourg’s Transition to Renewable Energy and Carbon Neutrality

Climate change poses a significant threat to humanity, with devastating consequences already occurring. Transitioning to a low-carbon economy is crucial for mitigating the effects of climate change. Microvascular Complications and Predictors for Mortality in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Foot Ulcers

A diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common and serious complication of diabetes. It is today the leading cause of amputations and is associated with both increased morbidity and mortality. Individuals with DFU have 2.5 times higher mortality rates compared to patients with diabetes but without DFU, a risk that persists even after ulcer healing. Something is rotten in development’s garden: Neglectings, barriers and opportunities for engaging with difference in the co-creation of strategies for change

Acknowledging that development initiatives often fail to bring about the long-lasting changes envisioned, the concept of ‘participation’ has been promoted to support principles such as ownership and sustainability. Unfortunately, participatory approaches largely fail to engage in and incorporate people’s different understandings of the world. Appreciating that when engaging in these differences, d

Frequently Recurrent Takotsubo Syndrome in COPD

Cardiovascular disease is common among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a transient cardiac disorder that, in its typical form, involves left ventricular dysfunction with apical ballooning and mimics acute coronary syndrome (ACS). "Bronchogenic TTS" has been proposed as a specific form of TTS (during severe acute dyspnea in asthma or COPD) witCardiovascular disease is common among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The predictive function of Swedish word accents

Swedish lexical word accents have been repeatedly said to have a lowfunctional load. Even so, the language has kept these tones ever sincethey emerged probably over a thousand years ago. This article proposesthat the primary function of word accents is for listeners to be ableto predict upcoming morphological structures and narrow down thelexical competition rather than being lexically distinctive
