Molecular and microstructural inventory of an isolated fossil bird feather from the Eocene Fur Formation of Denmark

An isolated, yet virtually intact contour feather(FUM-1980) from the lower Eocene Fur Formation of Denmarkwas analysed using multiple imaging and moleculartechniques, including field emission gun scanning electronmicroscopy (FEG-SEM), X-ray absorption spectroscopy andtime-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS).Additionally, synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographicmicroscopy (SRXTM) waAn isolated, yet virtually intact contour feather (FUM-1980) from the lower Eocene Fur Formation of Denmark was analysed using multiple imaging and molecular techniques, including field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM), X-ray absorption spectroscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). Isolation and some properties of an IgG Fc-binding protein from group A streptococci type 15

An IgG Fc-binding protein was isolated from alkaline extracts of group A streptococci type 15 by ion-exchange chromatography and immunosorption on an IgG column. Ample use of protease inhibitors was necessary to achieve successful isolation. 600 micrograms protein was obtained from 60 g bacteria (wet weight). The protein appeared homogeneous on agarose gel and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide

What does it take to establish that a world is uninhabited prior to exploitation? – A question of ethics as well as science

If we find life on another world, it will be an extremely important discovery and we will have to take great care not to do anything that might endanger that life. If the life we find is sentient we will have moral obligations to that life. Whether it is sentient or not, we have a duty to ourselves to preserve it as a study object, and also because it would be commonly seen as valuable in its own If we find life on another world, it will be an extremely important discovery and we will have to take great care not to do anything that might endanger that life. Antibody response in immunized rabbits measured with bacterial immunoglobulin-binding proteins

Protein G, an immunoglobulin (Ig)-binding protein isolated from group C or G streptococci, binds to the Fc portion of IgG. Protein L, from the anaerobic bacterium Peptostreptococcus magnus, specifically binds light chains of Ig. In this study, protein G and L were used to measure the production of antibodies in immunized rabbits. Two rabbits were immunized with a mixture of human urinary proteins

Complete solubilization of mammalian cells in lysates

In conventional cell lysate protocols, cell debris is typically discarded to obtain a cleaner lysate. However, this approach has limitations, as it may overlook vital cellular components. By discarding cell debris, researchers may inadvertently exclude crucial elements. Retaining all cellular components offers several advantages for studying molecular biology within various cellular compartments. Beteendekorrigerande skärmar – för minskad trängsel vid tågdörrar: en designstudie

The shift towards more environmentally friendly means of transportation is a pivotal change that needs to be made, to save the environment. The transportation sector alone constitutes roughly a third of all greenhouse emissions in Sweden, making it one of the leading contributors to all greenhouse gases. With ever-growing climate awareness, the idea of adopting a greener approach to protect the pl

Quantifying the Family Frailty Effect in Infant and Child Mortality by Using Median Hazard Ratio (MHR)

Most microlevel studies in the social sciences have focused on the impact of different measured variables. While some studies have also dealt with unobserved variation, it has usually only been controlled for to perfect the estimates of the observables. In this article, the authors applied a modified version of a recently developed method designed to quantify the effect of unobserved variation in

Doxa of Shareholders and Owners: : On the Threshold of Financialization

Following financialization, there has emerged an understanding of what it implies to be a shareholder based on the shareholder value perception. However, as this shareholder value perception spreads internationally, it clashes with traditional perceptions. In this paper, we apply the language developed by Bourdieu to a Swedish public debate on equal treatment of shareholders in connection with theFollowing financialization, there has emerged an understanding of what it implies to be a shareholder based on the shareholder value perception.

Geno

Fractionation gives therapeutic benefit in animal model of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 therapy of prostate cancer

BackgroundThe clinical standard practice of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 therapy is a single injection per treatment cycle, with 6 weeks between cycles. While clinical schedules currently utilize single-bolus cycles, splitting a treatment cycle into multiple smaller injections has demonstrated benefits in other radionuclide therapies, preclinically and in clinical studies. Potential mechanisms for improved

Historicizing the Historical Turn in Human Rights Studies : Origins, Inequality, and Neoliberalism in the Modern Epoch

The historical turn in human rights studies is characterized by a deep cleavage between scholars who locate the origins of human rights in the Atlantic Revolutions of the late 18th century, and scholars who instead focus on the post-WWII period in general, and on the 1970s in particular as a breakthrough decade for international human rights. Against the background of what has been described as th

A Voice Beyond the Edge: Michael Edgerton's "Anaphora" : Nonlinear dynamics in the extra-normal voice

The recital is focused on my research involving contemporary voice. My approach to singing research is becoming more systematic as the result of beginning to work on concepts central to the extra-normal voice, term coined by Michael Edward Edgerton. This approach to voice is based on voice science, the aims of which are to investigate the boundaries and/or limits of vocal sound production. In this

Capable to Care? Parenting Support Policies and the Changing Concept of Care

This paper explores the changing meanings and understandings of the concept of care in parenting support policies in Sweden since the 1990s. Caring responsibilities and practices has historically been framed and negotiated within general family policy reforms, comprising universal child allowances and generous parental leave schemes combined with publicly funded childcare, in turn closely related Åsa LundqvistProfessor in SociologyDepartment of SociologyLund UniversitySwedenAsa.Lundqvist@soc.lu.seAbstractCapable to Care? ‘It is completely ok to give up a little sometimes’ : Metaphors and Normality in Swedish Cancer Talk

The clichéd conceptualization of cancer illness as a battle, which the patient can either win or lose, can be problematic. For patients referred to palliative care, it can cause feelings of guilt and failure. This framing of cancer, here referred to as ‘the battle script’, has been questioned in previous research, and there seems to be awareness among health practitioners that battle metaphors sho
