Background: The right internal jugular vein is currently recommended for temporary central dialysis catheters (tCDC) based on results from previous studies showing a lower incidence of central vein stenosis compared to the subclavian vein. Data is however conflicting, and there are several advantages when the subclavian route is used for tCDCs. This prospective, controlled, randomised, non-inferio
About 40 years ago, a subpopulation of small neurons in the cerebellar nuclei was shown to project to the inferior olive, the source of the climbing fiber input to the cerebellum. This nucleo-olivary projection follows the zonal and probably also microzonal arrangement of the cerebellum so that closed loops are formed between the neurons in the olive, the cerebellar cortex, and the nuclei. Althoug
Permafrost-affected ecosystems are subject to warming and thawing, which can increase the availability of subsurface nitrogen (N) with consequences in otherwise N-limited tundra and alpine vegetation. Here, we quantify the extent of warming and permafrost thawing and the corresponding effects on nitrogen availability and plant growth based on a 20-year survey across 14 sites on the Tibetan Plateau
Objective People with neuropsychiatric symptoms often experience delay in accurate diagnosis. Although cerebrospinal fluid neurofilament light (CSF NfL) shows promise in distinguishing neurodegenerative disorders (ND) from psychiatric disorders (PSY), its accuracy in a diagnostically challenging cohort longitudinally is unknown. Methods We collected longitudinal diagnostic information (mean=36 mon
In this study, we use an extension of the heterogeneous autoregressive model to investigate the influence of time-varying risk aversion and macroeconomic, financial, and economic policy uncertainty measures on stock market volatility and correlation. Based on the findings, there is a stronger predictive ability of these variables at the monthly frequency than at the daily frequency. We also highli

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) occupies an increasingly important position in the clinic for the management of cardiac and/or pulmonary failure. As a rescue therapy, ECMO can support patients following respiratory or cardiac compromise to act as a bridge to recovery, to decision, or to transplant. This chapter reviews briefly the history of ECMO implementation as well as device modes,
Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder that is usually diagnosed after 20 weeks' gestation. Despite the deleterious effect of smoking on cardiovascular disease, it has been frequently reported that smoking has a protective effect on preeclampsia risk and biological explanations have been proposed. However, in this manuscript, we present multiple sources of bias that could explain this association
This article focuses on the quest for digitalisation in peace mediation and to the extent to which digital disruption is reshaping its practices. While digitalisation in the wider field of diplomacy has seen dramatic changes in its practices, peace mediation is a ‘latecomer’. The article explores the constitutive effects on specific norms and practices of peace mediation and identifies opportuniti
A significant proportion of COVID-19 patients experience debilitating symptoms for months after the acute infection. According to recent estimates, approximately one out of ten COVID-19 convalescents reports persistent health issues more than three months after initial recovery. This "post-COVID-19 condition" may include a large variety of symptoms from almost all domains and organs, and for some

However, exactly how to successfully engage energy citizens requires more research and this article aims to contribute to this knowledge gap. The article presents a new methodology, ‘Walking with Energy’, which seeks to (re)conn
