Layered Ni-rich transition metal oxide materials are considered the most promising cathodes for use in commercial Li-ion batteries. Due to their instability in air, an impurity layer forms during storage under ambient conditions, and this layer increases electrochemical polarization during charging and discharging, which ultimately leads to a lower cycling capacity. In this work, we found that sto

Taking advantage of the human brain functional connectome as an individual's fingerprint has attracted great research in recent years. Conventionally, Pearson correlation between regional time-courses is used as a pairwise measure for each edge weight of the connectome. Building upon recent advances in graph signal processing, we propose here to estimate the graph structure as a whole by consideri

We review all symmetry-allowed spin-singlet and spin-triplet superconducting order parameters in graphene (s-wave, d-wave, p-wave, and f-wave) generated by generic on-site, nearest-neighbor, and next-nearest-neighbor pairing interactions in a tight-binding model. For each pairing channel, we calculate both the band structure and the dependence of the density of states on energy, chemical potential

Aim: To compare total metabolic tumour volume (tMTV), calculated using two artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools, with manual segmentation by specialists as the reference. Methods: Forty-eight consecutive Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients staged with [18F] fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography were included. The median age was 35 years (range: 7–75), 46% female. The t

Cellular user positioning is a promising service provided by Fifth Generation New Radio (5G NR) networks. Besides, Machine Learning (ML) techniques are foreseen to become an integrated part of 5G NR systems improving radio performance and reducing complexity. In this paper, we investigate ML techniques for positioning using 5G NR fingerprints consisting of uplink channel estimates from the physica

Industry 4.0, with its focus on flexibility and customizability, is pushing in the direction of wireless communication in future smart factories, in particular massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and its future evolution Large Intelligent Surfaces (LIS), which provide more reliable channel quality than previous technologies. As such, there arises the need to perform efficient scheduling

Polar dielectrics are key materials of interest for infrared (IR) nanophotonic applications due to their ability to host phonon-polaritons that allow for low-loss, subdiffractional control of light. The properties of phonon-polaritons are limited by the characteristics of optical phonons, which are nominally fixed for most “bulk” materials. Superlattices composed of alternating atomically thin mat

European teacher educations today are expected to not only be ‘close to school practices’, but also to equip their students with academic knowledge. This article analyses one year of fieldwork data to discuss how these expectations are produced, reproduced and transformed in local practices by different categories of teacher educators (lecturers/assistant lecturers). The theory of practice archite

BACKGROUND: Research indicates that among the risks associated with young people's alcohol and illicit drug use are sexual risks. However, insights into co-occurrence of substance use and sexual risks in adolescent samples and possible differences across countries are limited. METHODS: A sample of 1449 adolescents from Belgium, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Germany screened positive for risky al

We study the emergence of electronic edge states in superconducting monolayer, bilayer, and trilayer graphene for both spin-singlet and spin-triplet superconducting order parameters. We focus mostly on the gapped chiral p+ip′- and d+id′-wave superconducting states that show a nonzero Chern number and a corresponding number of edge states. For the p+ip′-wave state, we observe a rich phase diagr

Understanding microbes in nature requires consideration of their microenvironment. Here, we present a protocol for quantifying biomass and nutrient degradation of bacterial and fungal cultures (Pseudomonas putida and Coprinopsis cinerea, respectively) in microfluidics. We describe steps for mask design and fabrication, master printing, polydimethylsiloxane chip fabrication, and chip inoculation an

We consider the most energetically favorable symmetry-allowed spin-singlet and spin-triplet superconducting pairing symmetries in monolayer and few-layer graphene and for each calculate the energy spectrum in the presence of a scalar or magnetic impurity. We find that two doubly degenerate subgap states exist for scalar impurities for all types of pairing, except for the spin-singlet s-wave state.

This chapter explores elite boundary crossing between civil society and other societal sectors—including the state, party politics, and business—and how this may lead to inter-elite integration. We illustrate how qualitative life-work history interviews provide an important complement to established quantitative approaches to the study of elite integration. We present a new classical interatomic potential designed for simulation of the W-Mo-Nb system. The angular-dependent format of the potential allows for reproduction of many important properties of pure metals and complex concentrated alloys with good accuracy. Special attention during the development and validation of the potential was paid to the description of vacancies, screw dislocations and

This chapter delves into one of the ways in which scholars strive to make their work matter, namely, through the practice of scholar-activism. It becomes evident that the concept of scholar-activism is multifaceted and lacks a universally established definition. The objective of this chapter is to gain an insider’s understanding of scholar-activism by exploring its conceptualization and intellectu

Background: The ongoing Pan-European Real Life (PEARL) phase 4 study is evaluating fremanezumab effectiveness and safety for the prevention of episodic and chronic migraine. This interim analysis reports primary, secondary and exploratory endpoints from when 500 participants completed at least six months of treatment. Methods: Adults with episodic migraine or chronic migraine maintaining daily hea
