Hereditärt angioödem (HAE) är en ovanlig men allvarlig sjukdom som orsakas av en genetiskt betingad brist eller nedsatt funktion hos enzymhämmaren C1-esteras inhibitor (C1INH). C1INH reglerar aktiviteten i komplement- och kontaktaktiverings-systemen och den störda funktionen vid HAE orsakar återkommande svullnader, huvudsakligen i hud och slemhinnor.
