The fight against homelessness and its links with anti-poverty policies in Sweden

Homelessness has increased significantly in Sweden since the early 1990s. A national survey of homelessness in 2023 showed that 27,383 people were in one of the four homelessness situations that are used in Sweden, namely 1) Acute homelessness, 2) Institutional and supported housing, 3) Long-term housing organised by the municipality and 4) Short-term accommodation arranged on one’s own. Imaging in gynecological disease (20) : clinical and ultrasound characteristics of adnexal torsion

Objectives: To describe the clinical and ultrasound characteristics of adnexal torsion. Methods: This was a retrospective study. From the operative records of the eight participating gynecological ultrasound centers, we identified patients with a surgically confirmed diagnosis of adnexal torsion, defined as surgical evidence of ovarian pedicle, paraovarian cyst and/or Fallopian tube twisted on its

MIS 3 vast alluviation by the Białka River, and further implications to the Tatra glaciers and river incision.

Both high-mountain rivers and wet-based mountain glaciers are considered effective erosion agents. They acted alternatively or simultaneously during the late Quaternary in the Tatra Mountains (West Carpathians) thus producing a vast amount of clastic material that was subject to deposition, reworking and transportation downstream. A small fraction of that amount of the material is still preserved

A Genome-Wide Association Study of Diabetic Kidney Disease in Subjects With Type 2 Diabetes

Identification of sequence variants robustly associated with predisposition to diabetic kidney disease (DKD) has the potential to provide insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms responsible. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of DKD in type 2 diabetes (T2D) using eight complementary dichotomous and quantitative DKD phenotypes: the principal dichotomous analysis involved 5,

Role of red meat and arachidonic acid in protein kinase C activation in rat colonic mucosa.

Two studies were conducted to investigate the role of meat and arachidonic acid in colonie signal transduction, particularly protein kinase C (PKC) activation. In Study 1, 26 male Wistar rats were fed a casein‐ or a beef‐based diet for four weeks. PKC activity was measured from the proximal and distal colonie mucosa and diacylglycerol concentration from fecal samples. The beef diet significantly i

The impact of ethnicity on glucose homeostasis after gestational diabetes mellitus

Background and aims: Ethnicity influences the prevalence of gestational diabetes (GDM) and its progression to manifest diabetes postpartum, being higher in non-European populations. This may partly be explained by differences in insulin secretion and action. Aims of the present study were to evaluate glucose homeostasis after GDM, the impact of ethnicity and other determinants of glucose toleranceBackground and aims: Ethnicity influences the prevalence of gestationaldiabetes (GDM) and its progression to manifest diabetes postpartum, beinghigher in non-European populations. Climate change impact on snow loads in northern Europe

Ongoing and future climate change will affect our built environment. It will have an impact on how we should design our structures to withstand the future environment. One important load when designing buildings in high latitudes and high elevations is the snow load, which in many countries is the governing load for roofs and other structural parts. A warmer climate may lead to a reduction in snow

Eye movement disorders in inborn errors of metabolism : A quantitative analysis of 37 patients

Inborn errors of metabolism are genetic disorders that need to be recognized as early as possible because treatment may be available. In late-onset forms, core symptoms are movement disorders, psychiatric symptoms, and cognitive impairment. Eye movement disorders are considered to be frequent too, although specific knowledge is lacking. We describe and analyze eye movements in patients with an inb
