Shaping scientific careers: the role of early-career research topic dynamics in fostering novel knowledge

This study explores how scientists navigate research topic transitions during their early-career training and examines its impact on the production of novel knowledge. Drawing on survey data of 270 mid-career scientists in life sciences, we investigate their time investment in topics during early career stages (i.e. during PhD and postdoc training) and trace their research output for 15 years afteThis study explores how scientists navigate research topic transitions during their early-career training and examines its impact on the production of novel knowledge. Nitrous oxide for monitoring fluid absorption in volunteers.

Background: We studied whether nitrous oxide (N(2)O) added to a fluid allows the infused volume to be quantified by measuring N(2)O in the expired air during normal breathing. If so, N(2)O might serve as a tracer of fluid absorption during endoscopic surgery. Methods: Twelve male volunteers received continuous and intermittent i.v. infusions (5-45 min) of fluid containing 40 ml litre(-1) of N(2)O.

Evaluation of Wildland Fire Detection Methods Using Expert Input

Recently the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released their 6th Assessment reports which confirm that the impact of climate change is visible, e.g. through an increased weather volatility leading both to hotter drier weather and increased flooding in some regions globally. One clear example of this is the increased prevalence of wildfires in recent years and increasing wildfire potentialRecently the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released their 6th Assessment reports which confirm that the impact of climate change is visible, e.g. through an increased weather volatility leading both to hotter drier weather and increased flooding in some regions globally. " When You Come Together to Eat...": The Social-Scientific Study of the Community Meals as an Identity Shaping Process at Corinth and Galatia.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the community meals as an identity shaping process in Paul’s ekklēsiai. The research question is as follows: In which ways do meals form an identity, community, and equality in Paul’s ekklēsia at Corinth and Galatia, in the light of the Greco-Roman banquet tradition and the Apostolic Decree? I answer this question by focus on meals as a banquet, and meals a

Filtering techniques for asset allocation using a Discrete Time Micro-structure model: a comparative study

This paper is a comparative study of different approaches to using a Discrete Time Micro-structure model. By using the three filtering techniques Extended Kalman, Unscented Kalman and Bootstrap Particle, the hidden variables; excess demand and market liquidity, were estimated and used in an asset allocation strategy that invested in the asset when the excess demand as estimated as positive, due to

Differences in perception on entrepreneurial learning and venture development in a social accelerator – A case study

Existing literature on entrepreneurial learning and venture development within accelerators is limited to the perspective of the organisers of such programs. ost studies have been conducted on developed for high-tech ventures in commercial sectors. This paper aims to new insights into the start-up’s perception on skill development an accelerator for social entrepreneurship. Whil the need for socia

Frihetens makt och makten över friheten

Abstract The purpose of this essay is to study how the state governs the population in Sweden 1809-1870. The period from the “revolutionary” government of 1810 to the 1870's is a period of change in Sweden, when old feudal institutions are put under great pressure from economic and social change. The state changes, its relation to the local society changes, and new methods of power and polit

Obegripligheten: En studie av det problematiska subjektet i E T A Hoffmanns Sandmannen och Clarice Lispectors Passionen enligt G.H.

Autonomy, agency and freedom has been central concepts in the traditional Western understanding of subjectivity. The myth about the self-contained subject with the inherent capacity of self-fullfilment as long as it only frees itself from external practical constraints and internal self-destructive thoughts is still highly present in our modern society. Even the feminist and post-colonial movement

Constructing a sustainable Africa

This master’s thesis analysed sustainable development policies in China’s 11th Five-Year Plan and sustainable development considerations at the building of the Bui Dam in Ghana. The theory section discusses and defines sustainable development, and in the method section, ‘ideal-types’ of economic, social and environmental development were developed. These ideal-types were then used as reference poi

Kittel, hjärta eller nav: en kritisk diskursanalys av ett folkbiblioteks stadsdelsutvecklingsuppdrag

This Master’s thesis is based on a field study conducted at the IdéA, a public library and meeting place in Drottninghög, Helsingborg, chosen because of its urban development mission. This mission should be understood in relation to the redevelopment plan of the Million Program area Drottninghög, where IdéA is located. In this thesis formulations and interpretations of the urban development missio

Climatology of the Iberia coastal low-level wind jet: weather research forecasting model high-resolution results

Coastal low-level jets (CLLJ) are a low-tropospheric wind feature driven by the pressure gradient produced by a sharp contrast between high temperatures over land and lower temperatures over the sea. This contrast between the cold ocean and the warm land in the summer is intensified by the impact of the coastal parallel winds on the ocean generating upwelling currents, sharpening the temperature g

The nature of stars with a common origin: clues from metallicity, elemental abundances, and kinematics

Most of field stars originate from dissolved star clusters. If the gas cloud is well mixed the stars in the cluster are expected to be chemically homogenous. Although the original kinematical information of a star may be lost under the Galactic dynamic evolution, the chemical signatures are preserved in the form of elemental abundances in individual low-mass stars. The present-day distribution of

Kinetics and Mechanism for the Redox Reaction between Hexaaquathallium(III) and Sulfur Dioxide in Acidic Aqueous Solution

Oxidation of dissolved sulfur dioxide, SO2·nH2O, HSO3– and SO32–, by hexaaquathallium(III) has been studied in acidic aqueous solution with ionic strength 1.0 mol dm–3 at 25 °C. The stoichiometry of the reaction has been determined: [Tl(H2O)6]3++ SO2(aq)+ 2H2O →[Tl(H2O)6]++ HSO4–+ 3H+. The kinetics has been studied by use of stopped-flow spectrophotometry under pseudo-first-order conditions with eOxidation of dissolved sulfur dioxide, SO2·nH2O, HSO3– and SO32–, by hexaaquathallium(III) has been studied in acidic aqueous solution with ionic strength 1.0 mol dm–3 at 25 °C. Lovers of the Rose : Islamic Affect and the Politics of Commemoration in Turkish Museal Display

This chapter explores Hilye-i Şerif, the calligraphic description of the Prophet Muhammad—and its significance in current Turkish politics. With roots in Ottoman literature, art and Prophet devotion, this genre is currently witnessing a striking artistic innovativeness. Under the theme of Aşk-ı Nebi (Love for the Prophet), several public exhibitions have been organised within recent, state-run mevThis chapter explores Turkish museal display as an arena for memory-cultural Islamisation, extending beyond the walls of museums. It probes museums as spaces for exhibiting nationalism, and the burgeoning interest in religion and affect within a new museology. It discusses how Turkish expositions have appropriated aspects of such a new museology in restorative-commemorative expositions of the Otto

The importance of including habitat-specific behaviour in models of butterfly movement

Dispersal is a key process affecting population persistence and major factors affecting dispersal rates are the amounts, connectedness and properties of habitats in landscapes. We present new data on the butterfly Maniola jurtina in flower-rich and flower-poor habitats that demonstrates how movement and behaviour differ between sexes and habitat types, and how this effects consequent dispersal rat

AI created music – copyright infringement or new creation?

Artificial Intelligence has existed for many years and keeps developing. AI has become better at generating new works, for example music, which raises a question of whether AI can potentially infringe on copyright. This thesis examines the legal framework regarding copyright and AI and whether AI used in music can constitute a copyright infringement. The question that is focused on is “To what ext
