Theoretical Isolation and Symmetry in the Resource-based View

Theorizing simplifies reality by means of "isolation" whereby some phenomena or aspects thereof are excluded from consideration. Using the case of the resource-based view, we discuss how theorists isolate. We develop a case for symmetrical isolations, show that the RBV violates a symmetry requirement, argue that a more symmetrical RBV implies novel insights in value creation and appropriation, and

Mother tongue and language use in Armenian and Russian schools in Georgia

This paper deals with the different stages of language maintenance and language shift among some minority groups in connection with the language of education and character of settlement in Georgia. This paper is focused on the comparison of Armenian respondents educated via Russian and via Armenian, and also on Armenian respondents living in Tbilisi and in areas of compact Armenian settlement. The

Determiners and incorporation in Maori

The noun phrase in Maori has been analysed by Waite 1994 and Dooley Collberg 1994 using a DP structure of the type first introduced by Abney 1987. This article presents additional evidence in the form of incorporation data which supports the DP analysis and the classification of the singular determiner te as the head of DP.

Modal readings of light verbs with to-infinitivals

This paper examines one type of configurationally determined meaning. Specifically, I defend the hypothesis that modality is not only expressed lexically, that is, by modal verbs or adverbs, but can arise syntactically, as the result of certain function words in specific configurations. This paper examines light verbs that receive modal readings due to their syntactic configuration and explores th

On the Performance of Vehicular Communications with a Measurement-Based Radio Propagation Model

The choice of channel propagation model used for the simulation-based study of Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks (VANETs) plays a key role in the accuracy of conclusions drawn about the performance of applications proposed for these networks. Relying on simplistic channel models, as frequently practised in previous works, leads either to pessimistic or optimistic conclusions. In the view of this, in this

Aspects on reliability calibration of safety factors for timber structures

Analyses and a discussion of the consequences for lightweight structures, typical wood frame or truss structures, when a change of the statistical description of random parameters in a reliability based code format is made without considering how the code once was derived is presented. The special case when the statistical description of variable load is altered, is described with and without cons

Use of antihistamine drugs in early pregnancy and delivery outcome.

OBJECTIVE: To study the impact of antihistamine use in early pregnancy on delivery outcome. METHODS: Using prospectively collected information on drug use in early pregnancy, delivery outcome was studied among 17 266 women with 17 776 deliveries and 18 197 infants. The analysis was performed according to the main reason for antihistamine use: nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and allergy. RESULTS:

Autophosphorylation suppresses, whereas kinase inhibition augments, the translocation of PKCa in response to diacylglycerol.

We have seen that protein kinase Calpha (PKCalpha) is transiently translocated to the plasma membrane by carbachol stimulation of neuroblastoma cells. This is induced by the Ca2+ increase, and PKCalpha does not respond to diacylglycerol (DAG). The unresponsiveness is dependent on structures in the catalytic domain of PKCalpha. This study was designed to investigate if and how the kinase activity a

Clinical Trials in Russia: Growing Experience and Revision of Regulations.

Clinical trials of pharmaceuticals have been running in Russia for more than ten years and while it is an attractive location for research, it remains a largely untapped resource as researchers look to expand patient recruitment outside the Western world. While academic sites like Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk have all gained experience in clinical trials, smaller hospitals in peripheral

Supply chain integration and performance: a review of the evidence

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyse papers studying the link between supply chain integration (SCI) and performance, and to discuss reported empirical evidence relating to this fundamental question for logistics and supply chain management.

Design/methodology/approach
A systematic analysis of 38 papers published in nine important journals in logistics, su

Interaction between colloids with grafted diblock polyampholytes

The interaction between composite colloidal particles composed of a spherical core and grafted AB-diblock polyampholytes (diblock copolymers with oppositely charged blocks) are investigated by using a coarse-grained model solved with Monte Carlo simulations. The B block is end-grafted onto the core of the colloid and its linear charge density is varied, whereas the linear charge density of the A b

The physical basis of model-free analysis of NMR relaxation data from proteins and complex fluids

NMR relaxation experiments have provided a wealth of information about molecular motions in macromolecules and ordered fluids. Even though a rigorous theory of spin relaxation is available, the complexity of the investigated systems often makes the interpretation of limited datasets challenging and ambiguous. To allow physically meaningful information to be extracted from the data without commitme

Knowledge Links in High-Technology Industries: Markets, Networks, or Milieu? The Case of the Vienna Biotechnology Cluster

In recent years, the innovation process in biotechnology has become a subject of major interest to scholars from different disciplines. Despite an ever growing body of work, the nature of knowledge links and their particular geography remain a highly disputed issue. The purpose of this paper is to shed some light on this topic. We will develop a model of knowledge interactions distinguishing betwe

Rinsing morcellised bone grafts with bisphosphonate solution prevents their resorption: A PROSPECTIVE RANDOMISED DOUBLE-BLINDED STUDY.

During revision total hip replacement using morcellised compacted bone allograft, 16 patients were randomised to receive a graft which had been rinsed in either an ibandronate solution or in saline. Patients were assessed by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry after operation and at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months. A region of interest between the tip of the femoral stem and the distal plastic plug was chosen

Quantum-chemical calculations of dye-sensitized semiconductor nanocrystals

Quantum chemical calculations providing detailed information of dye-sensitized semiconductor nanocrystals are presented. The calculations are used to elucidate both structural and electronic properties of photoelectrochemical devices, such as environmentally friendly Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs), at the molecular level. Quantum chemical calculations have recently been performed on both organ
