The goal of this paper is to determine whether the photoplethysmography (PPG) can replace the ECG-based detection of heart rate turbulence. Using the PPG, classification of ventricular premature beats (VPBs) is accomplished with a linear classifier. The two conventional parameters turbulence onset and slope are studied together with a recently introduced parameter characterizing turbulence shape.

Några aBiological organisms have an incredible ability to adapt to almost any environment and the humans activities on earth have created many new habitats for different kinds of organisms. For example can certain organisms grow on rocks and vertical cliffs, and when humans started building houses with mineral based façades, some organisms found that these were new habitats to live on. Some of these expa

Denna litterat

In this report the motor side of a converter driven AC-locomotive is studied and modeled. The motor side consists of an asynchronous electrical engine, an indirect self controller, a voltage converter, a Pulse Width Modulator(PWM) and the train mechanics. The converter is supplied with voltage from a DC-link. The link is connected to a line converter which transfers energy from the railway net to

This thesis examines the relationship between experts and democracy in a specific case, the project of establishing a tramcar route from the central station in Lund to the northeast part of the city. The theoretical approach stems from the concept of networks and potential clashes in the relation between experts and democratic values. An examination has been done of 25 documents concerning the inv

Biodiversity, and in particular plant species diversity decline is linked to landscape fragmentation and habitats loss due to land use transformations but also to decreasing dispersal vectors in the landscape. During the last 200 years the landscape has undergone dramatic changes in its structure and its habitats diversity. Among the different habitats that constitute rural landscape there are thr

Det finns emellertid fall då omständigheterna vid betalningen och händelseförloppet därefter gIn Swedish law, the principle of condictio indebiti provides, as a general rule, that anyone who makes a payment by mistake shall have the right to get his or her money back. The general rule is motivated by the fact that the recipient of the payment is in no way entitled to the funds, and therefore has no considerable interest in keeping them. There are, however, situations where the chain of eve

Heavy trucks vehicles by design often suffer from issues causing driver discomfort. That discomfort is here considered caused by oscillations in the driveline, which are affecting the driver. The driveline oscillations – sometimes referred to as shunt and shuffle - exist because of the sheer amount of power in a heavy truck engine, combined with a driveline where the components are relatively weak

Employee surveys are common tools for management to measure the attitudes of employees (Wiley, 2010). Due to globalization it also becomes more common that companies consist of different cultural compositions. Culture is a phenomenon that helps explain how people interpret their environment and can exist on a number of different levels (Hofstede &Hofstede, 2005). The study intended to examine

Aquaculture is an expanding industry, supplying closer to 50% of the total fish consumption. Commercialized fish production faces sustainability challenges which are important to address. Aquaponics uses wastewater from aquaculture to grow plants using hydroponics. This is a step towards making the industry more sustainable, but the practice is not straightforward. The plants and the fish thrive a

This thesis aims to evaluate the performance of Siemens’ High Level Synthesis (HLS) tool Catapult. HLS can be considered the next step up in abstraction level from writing traditional Register Transfer Level (RTL) code which is time consuming and error prone. The promise of HLS is to speed up the process of designing integrated circuits by lifting the abstraction level so the design can be coded f

This project has been an exploration into how sustainability is understood and its challenges framed within design. But the reader undertaking the task of going through this document will find more about carrying in urban transportation which has been the area of application. Probing the underlying assumptions upon which our solutions toward a sustainable future rest, the research identifies

Transposable elements compose roughly 50% of the human genome and have been proven to have a great impact on the genome as a source of genetic variation. Because of this they are normally silenced by various mechanisms one of which being CpG DNA methylation. In this study We analysed the insertional landscapes and methylation levels of reference LINE-1 elements in humans, chimpanzees and rhesus mo

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between health and economic growth. Specifically, the study examines whether economic growth affects three selected health variables in a positive or negative way. Data from 38 OECD nations between 2000 to 2020 are used in a panel data regression with fixed effects to evaluate this. Three equations are formulated to analyz

The presence of informal settlements in large cities of the developing world is a concrete expression of urban poverty. The residents of Brazilian favelas are more likely to be exposed to environmental risks, lower life quality and risks of eviction. Additionally, there is a common generalization of associating favela residents with illegality, criminality and pollution. Using a political ecology

More than 400 million people in the world have type 2 diabetes, making it one of the most common diseases internationally according to the World Health Organization. Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) is used to treat type 2 diabetes since it increases the sensitivity of insulin in peripheral tissues. The knowledge about the mechanism how TZD works is limited which has resulted in patients getting serious
