Towards an understanding of the decision process of solvers’ participation in crowdsourcing contests for problem solving

Solvers’ participation is essential for successful implementation of crowdsourcing contests for problem solving (CCPS). Many efforts have been made to investigate solvers’ various participation behaviours in CCPS. Whether or not a solver will conduct a behaviour is the result of decision making. However, to our knowledge, few studies concentrated on solvers’ participation from a decision process p

Analysis of cfDNA fragmentomics metrics and commercial targeted sequencing panels

Fragmentomics based analysis of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has recently emerged as a method to infer epigenetic and transcriptional data. Many of these reports analyze whole genome sequencing (WGS) which is not readily available clinically. Targeted exon panels are used for clinical cfDNA variant calling. In this report, we conduct an investigation of multiple published fragmentomics methods for WGS, b

Subtraction neglect in perceptions of climate action strategies

Research suggests that individuals often overlook beneficial subtractive strategies when solving problems. Subtractive strategies, which include reducing demand for goods and services (e.g., reducing car use), have a high climate mitigation potential. Yet, these may be systematically overlooked in favor of additive strategies like adopting new technologies (e.g., buying an electric car). This Regi

Cognitive mechanisms in simile and metaphor comprehension

This study investigates whether metaphors and similes are processed the same way or not. Comparison accounts of metaphor claim that metaphors and similes use the same cognitive mechanisms because metaphors are implicit similes, while Categorization accounts claim that the two figures of speech require different cognitive mechanisms. It is unclear which position has the most support. We address thi

Propagating Model Uncertainty through Filtering-based Probabilistic Numerical ODE Solvers

Filtering-based probabilistic numerical solvers for ordinary differential equations (ODEs), also known as ODE filters, have been established as efficient methods for quantifying numerical uncertainty in the solution of ODEs. In practical applications, however, the underlying dynamical system often contains uncertain parameters, requiring the propagation of this model uncertainty to the ODE solutio

A Registered Report on Place-Based Resentment : Exploring Urban-Rural Tensions in Sweden

This Registered Report examines urban-rural tensions in Sweden - a historically egalitarian, multi-party welfare state with strong geographical equalization schemes, making it a least-likely case for place-based resentment theories. Using an online survey experiment (n = 2,051), we measured resentment through perceptions of in-group and out-group, and by experimentally varying whether political st

De frågeställningar som ligger till grund för uppsatsen avser dels omplaceringsräThis thesis examines how the employer’s right to relocate employees is structured and limited under Swedish law and how this right may be applied in the context of hybrid work. The thesis outlines how the duty to work is based on employment contracts, legislation and case law, which collectively sets the framework within which relocation of employees may take place. The research questions underlyi

Introduction : Communicating in the Face of Global Crises

In an increasingly interconnected and digitalized global world, organizations are confronted with a growing range of complex crises. The COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, environmental disasters resulting from climate change, global financial crises, and misinformation campaigns are just some of the contemporary global developments presenting significant organizing challenges. Positioned at t

Negotiating Home Studying different institutional approaches to tenants’ situation during Kirunas relocation

This paper examines how LKAB, the municipality of Kiruna and the Swedish Tenants Union (STU) approached Kiruna’s urban relocation, specifically the tenants' situation that arose during its first phase. Using theories of commodification and gamification of rental housing, the paper analyses how institutional responsibilities toward tenants were understood and negotiated within the Swedish renta

Cultural Origins of Preventive Care Utilization

We examine whether culturally transmitted time and risk preferences help explain differences in preventive health care uptake. We combine individual-level survey data from 27 European countries with country-level preference measures from the Global Preferences Survey. To isolate cultural influences from institutional and economic confounders, we focus on second-generation immigrants, who were born

Exposure to Inequality, Human Capital Investment, and Labor Market Outcomes

We estimate the effects of exposure to income and wealth inequality during adolescence on long-term educational and labor market outcomes. Using detailed Swedish register data covering all students completing compulsory education between 1989 and 2013, we construct measures of inequality among students’ school-cohort peers and exploit variation between cohorts within schools to identify causal eff

Job Location Decisions and the Effect of Children on the Employment Gender Gap

We study the effect of childbirth on local and non-local employment dynamics for both men and women using Belgian social security and geo-location data. Applying an event-study design that accounts for treatment effect heterogeneity, we show that 75 percent of the effect of the birth of a first child on the overall gender gap in employment is accounted for by gender disparities in non-local employ
